NFL Recap: Broncos Edge Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
During a defensive struggle on Sunday, the Broncos clinched a close win over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter scoring strike and specialist Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to seal the hard-fought win.
Dominant Display Seals Game
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after conceding a two-point play in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the entire game.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes left.
Record Struggles for Jets Offense
In spite of their dismal offensive display, the Jets still had possession with a chance to score a possible winning score. But Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 when coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it rather than sending out kicker Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York finished with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," the coach commented following the contest.
